Sunday Update - 08/02/26

I don’t know if it’s the persistent drizzle or just the natural flow of things, I’ve been in a creative rut for most of this week.

I suppose it’s just how things go. I was in a really good place towards the end of January but maybe my batteries are a little worn down. That isn’t to say I haven’t done anything, just nothing that I would consider interesting to comment on.

Croquis Cafe started up their annual Figuary life drawing videos, which I have been joining in with daily, and trying different approaches as I go. It’s definitely inspired me to focus on studying individual body parts and anatomy more too - all things I imagine I’ll continue to do throughout the rest of the month.

Line drawing has been something else that I’ve felt the need to return to after spending so much time on watercolour and markers last month. I’m still trying to find ways to combine line with colour that feels satisfying to me, but those deeper rabbit holes remain undiscovered for now. More play and frustration needed.

The remainder of the week has been spent trying to drum up some work. I’m again falling into the routine of sending emails, DMs and creating some luck (hopefully). I’ve approached some of my dream collaborators/publishers, but I’m not too optimistic of my possibilities overall - that is, given my previous success rate. Still, you have to throw your hat in the ring every once in a while. I’d happily be proven wrong.

Outside of actual illustration work I’m keen to test the waters with some workshops and/or mentoring soon. And I’ve set up a new eBay account in order to sell some of my originals. I will naturally share information on that when I have it.

Lastly, after experimenting with different levels of interaction with social media I’ve decided to go full steam ahead where posting and sharing is concerned. Mainly because getting anyone to leave social media to read your blog post (except you of course) isn’t easy, but it's probably not a bad thing to start resharing some of my most favourable work now that I’m contacting potential new clients.

But this blog will continue to be a thing and the first place (outside of Patreon) that I share my latest work.

Thank you for your time and support.

All the best,

Alex
